From Tugboat Captain to Artist

I have tried many forms of art over the years but never had the time to REALLY get into and REALLY learn. Ive done photography since I was 16 (now 52), Even done Tattooing! I worked as a Ferry and tugboat Captain, sailed tall ships as crew. Painted many pretty boats and sold them. My kids are grown now and I have so many physical limitations due to injuries that I have been stuck inside a lot. I have no income at all anymore.

I have been oil painting wet on wet for over a year now. But have recently been learning old school techniques and want to learn other mediums as well.

A journey of the artist

I am a 46 year old artist and sculptor. I have experience of nearly 25 years. I have held many art exhibitions, obtained a lot of honorary certificates and obtained a qualification certificate (drawing and decoration).

Art is my whole life so I decided to write you in order to help me to get a scholarship to continue my studies of art and help promote my artworks (Graduate degrees in Art).

My art obsession

The ultimate dream is to do portraits as I feel people are wonderful subjects as every face tells a story.

I would love to win this art course so I could get the help and teaching that I so much desire. I’m sure I have developed bad habits that would drive professional artist mad, but I’m like a sponge and just want to learn as much as I can to improve my art.

Art? I Can…

My name is Zachary Hill and I am from Porterville, CA. I am 37 and have been drawing for about six months, during which time I have been collecting supplies to start oil painting.

Art is an extremely important piece of my life as it replaces what would surely be a sizable Xanax prescription. I started drawing because I got tired of saying “I can’t” when the subject of art came up, and have been told I missed my calling to art due to my age. However, I believe I found it.

Art is My Passion

Art is my passion and now a second career. I fell lighter and fuller as a painter and fibre artist. Continuous learning, personal growth and great personal fulfillment are but a few of the many benefits of practicing my art.

I love the challenge of creating. Painting in true alla prima painting style is my current painting goal.

Art to Recover and Restore

I am a 56-year old wife, mother, grandmother and high school counselor. In the past year, Old yearnings from childhood have been stirring. I used to want to be an illustrator! Somewhere around 10 years old, I discarded my interest in drawing as I viewed it as impractical and not able to provide an income–plus I wasn’t good enough. My perfectionism paralyzed me. It was easier to not try than fail.

Hello, my name is Pierluigi and I love to travel and see the world and different cultures. Sometimes I like to see other people travelling: what are they doing? Why do they travel? I like observing those people and I want to have the skill and techniques to draw their expressions and their moment.

Prime Minister

I am retired after 40 years in the accounting profession and have been drawing for about 9 months. Having never drawn with a purpose before, I found the process to be very challenging. Accountants like to ‘draw’ legible numbers in little boxes. After seeing some examples on youtube, I was fascinated with the hyperrealism of some of the portraits and still life people are able to do and unfortunately, was able to occasionally produce a drawing that people would say, usually questioningly, who they thought it was. They were correct about half the time. Undaunted, I press on. The pleasure of showing a portrait and have instant recognition of the subject is very satisfying. Drawing a person is very different from drawing a particular person.

Hungry for complete all encompassing art training

Hi, I am a 67 year old grandmother from New Brunswick, Canada.

I have been drawing and painting off and on all my life, but get frustrated with my efforts because there is so much I don’t know and have never been able to find a source where I could learn the things I want to. I want to reach a point in my drawing ability where I can draw whatever is in front of me with confidence and skill. Right now I have the desire but when I try I don’t know where to start or how to proceed.

I have been reviewing the Drawing Academy courses and they seem to be just what I am looking for. However, my only source of income is my pension and every penny counts, so I can’t afford the cost of your course.
