Always Challenging Myself!

I feel every artist is at a level in which in order to improve needs to continually challenge themselves. Also at each you level you need to appreciate where you are at and if with each success is the fuel to keep going with your creativity and experimentation. I have been painting for 50 years and am continually learning and thoroughly enjoying the process. I was fortunate to have a mother and grandmother who where both artists and encouraged me. I have in my later years focused and draw and paint mainly trees and the human figure. I feel both subjects have a lot in common – each an individual with character and perseverance…

Scared of bubbles

Scared of bubbles

Artwork by Marie Kearns Mc Kay

I am from Ireland, co Cavan to be exact. I have attended art college over the years on a part time basis. I still draw in between work and hanging out with my grandchildren. I hope to do more when I eventually retire. I had trained in portraiture years ago and always strive to get a good likeness of the person. I would also be inclined to paint more in a manner that is realistic.

i love the academy because its the type of work I want to achieve. I have signed up to the oil painting video course and feel it is time for me to study more on how to draw figures and to refine any skills I have within the study of portraiture…

My Sister’s Gardening Boots

My Sister’s Gardening Boots

Artwork by Ronnie Rayner Larter

My interest in art began in my last year at school in the mid 1960’s. When I left school I continued to draw and paint, experimenting with many different media from pencil, ink, pastels, and paint. I went through periods of such as abstract art, cubism, expressionism, impressionism, etc., but it wasn’t until the 1980s when I discovered who I really was as an artist. I found a natural feeling for nature and creating work that was a cross between impressionism and realism.

When I was 37 years old I embarked on a 2-year graphic design and illustration course at Art College. I have also taken fine art studies part-time but found them disappointing as they never taught students ‘how to draw’, which was a huge drawback. When I left Art College I freelanced to the print trade and later embarked on a program of self-study, investigating the techniques of the old masters…

Poetic Art

Artwork by Ibanga Emem

Hello, I am Ibanga Emem, a 19-year old artist from Nigeria. I started drawing at age 7 (if not younger), and I took it for a hobby (most of us did that as little children). I left medical school to study art because I don’t just love to draw, but I paint, and I write. I would love it, if I am granted the Drawing Academy membership because I want to improve in shading tones, anatomy and perspective. This will help my imaginations come to life…

Guitarist who loves to draw

Guitarist who loves to draw

Artwork by Nathaly Joanne Corales

Hello, my name is Nathaly. I am a guitarist who always liked to draw but never took it seriously until I took a drawing class in college last year, which made me remember how much I loved drawing. I love all Art in general but making music and drawing are my two favorites.

I drew this self-portrait in order to use it as a poster for my Senior Guitar Recital in College. The full poster is 18″x24″ but the self-portrait drawing is about 16″x15″ on its own. It was made with Graphite.

I believe that the Drawing Academy is a good place to learn good fundamentals. It does not matter if you want to draw modern things because the fundamentals they offer are extremely important for every artist…
