Always Learning!
I was raised in a very small rural town in Alaska with no real access to art classes or training. Most of what I have learned about drawing and art, I have taught myself.
I love to draw beauty, and most of my work consists of portraits. I have drawn a variety of subjects in the past.
While I do take commissions for others, mostly I draw for myself. I challenge myself with each new piece to do better, and I am always desiring to learn new things!

Rediscovering Happiness
Good afternoon, or evening, or morning, depending on when you read this. My name is Mike, I’m 58 and I live in Wisconsin, a beautiful state, in my unbiased opinion.
The drawing I submitted is of my wife. If you knew her, you would say, yeah that kind of looks like her, I would like to leave no doubt that when you look at my drawings that you can recognize the face you’re looking at…

My life in pictures
My name is Kate Beaty nee Mc Quillan. I live in Adelaide Australia and am trying to find my voice in art.
Art has always played a huge part of my life. I have always sought out exhibitions, books and artists themselves to look and wonder at the marks on the paper, the colours and tones that pull the artwork all together and the concentrated high feeling it feeds to my soul…

Mona Lisa
Leonardo da Vinci is my favorite figure in history not only because of his accomplishments in art, but also because of his unsurpassed amount of talents in almost every discipline, and his tenacious working ethics.
I first encountered art at the age of 3 and was drawn to it ever since. Throughout my childhood drawing had been a daily routine, almost equally as important as eating and drinking, and in a way it is, as it has become the sustenance for my mind and soul…

Find the right path
Hi everyone!
I was born and lived my whole life in Poland. Although my path wasn’t always clear, I finally found it. I believe that art is what makes my limbs move every morning. For some time I was trying to convince myself that I do not need it, that I can aspire perfection in any other field and be happy with it. That is not true. Without drawing and painting I was always missing something…

Following my Dream
I started drawing and painting very young with my first original oils from my sister’s leftover paint by number kit and on cardboard saved by my mother. I was always drawing on the back of paper she saved that was clean on one side. Nothing was wasted; it was recycling before it was cool.
I did not go to art school because it was not a practical choice to my family so I went for design instead. I ended up drafting architectural plans because they were needed for permits for contractors, architects and homeowners building their dreams with my drawing tools and never went into computer-aided design but I was able to help support my family with it when my husband was in college and my kids were little…

Art is My Life
I have always been interested in faces, no idea why. Sometimes, when I am speaking to someone, I find myself drawing their face in space with my index finger.
One day, out of the blue, I decided to start walking through my neighborhood, stopping people that I thought looked “interesting” and asking them if I could take their photo. I collected about 75 shots of people that lived here in my Chicago neighborhood.
Over the following year, I drew about 50 or so portraits, using graphite pencils. Looking back, I wouldn’t show these to anyone today, although I learned a lot about technique. I picked up some excellent hints from the Drawing Academy site (along with some YouTube videos) and have been continuing my journey…
