Looking to level up

Hello, my name is Kristen, and I’m a 30 year old Canadian artist wannabe, working at a thrift store. I graduated from college as a designer for theatre, but as a slow learner was overwhelmed by the plethora of artistic mediums to practice in such a short period of time. I’ve recently returned to the foundations with simple pencil and paper, which has truly renewed my love for art. I just want to draw and learn and draw better and inspire and be inspired.

Art is a mirror of the mind

I am a part time tutor by profession and have a passion for art. I have been painting since I was a child and never went away from it. My creativity did not stop there. I participated in various inter school competitions for creative writing and this helped me write poetry, short stories and articles. I have also participated in art competitions when I was a student and won a few of them. Art and creative writing gives my life a sense of direction and helps me feel relaxed after work.

In my heart the will and in my hands the means

Hello World,

My name is Orsy a student of life devoted to express his creative side to the world. Since I was young I had a great interest in the fine arts, choosing to draw my ideas with some adeptness one would say for the young age I was at the time. Drawing I observed was a visual activity where seeing the contours and the directions of light allowed one to replicate these conditions on paper which was key in allowing the recreation of the objects seen with some realism. I had no one to teach me at the time however so I sought material at school and the library to further improve my abilities.

Figuring the Figure

I have been drawing for a long time, but I learned when I was 9 years old, and have had very little instruction since then. I went to Art College, which was mostly focused on concept development, not skills training. I was very disillusioned after completing my university degree (and I had majored in new media- which I then could not afford as a student to continue making art with). After university, I went traveling and being on the road meant I returned to drawing and painting after a long break.

I have challenges with setting up my drawings before diving in- I often end up drawing bigger than my page.

A lot of my drawing skills have been self-taught from books- so I think that I could definitely improve filling in the gaps in my knowledge, learning some more anatomy and improving my perspective and proportional skills.

A hare of hope!

This is my first attempt… no experience of drawing. The place of art in my life – critical to sanity. Making quilts and working with colour and fabric has kept me sane. I still love it and still do it, but it takes quite a physical effort, and often I need something I can do just sitting. So I want to add another way of working. Actually I’d like to expand my quilting too by expanding my skills in other areas. So at the moment it’s just me and the fabric – it would be so great if it was me the fabric and the pencil all playing with each other.

Final moment

I began to draw some years ago. It was a big idea because I found myself after a very long and hard way.

I am a self taught trying to learn from internet and a lot of books.

Finding Drawing Academy was a good opportunity for me. You offer a knowledge I could learn from a master. Learning about perspective, human body, figure, human anatomy, drawing from life, from your professional artists would be a big opportunity for me develop my drawing skills and to use them painting too.

Charcoal Lights a Fire in Me!

Ever since I was a little girl I admired, yea, even envied my younger brother’s natural drawing abilities. He could stop on a dime and sketch something quickly that would blow your mind. Stick figures were my best effort and I believed that I could never be an artist because I wasn’t born with the talent.

In 2015, I had begun to paint with acrylics and quickly realized that drawing was a necessity and began to apply myself to learning with a fresh mindset. I LOVE painting and that passion fueled my intent to learn to draw.

Panther Crossing

My name is Cathy Edwards. I work on my art whenever I can find the time! Art is a very important part of my life now, but of course, my husband and cats come first!

My main challenge is perspective.

The subjects of my artwork consists mainly of animal and people portraits so I would like to expand more on still life.

I am new to the Drawing Academy website. I haven’t explored it fully yet, but it seems quite interesting and informative.
