A great chance to win the art course

Hi,

My name is Aaron Cristofaro and I have been drawing and painting for a long time. Now I am 41 and I’ve been doing art more seriously for the last four years. The challenges that I still struggle with are the basics of drawing like making controlled lines etc because such skills were not taught when I was taking art lessons before.

I’m still a good artist though I need to polish a few things. I want to learn the classical approach to art and new techniques in oil painting.

I think the Drawing Academy is good because they teach you everything that you need to know to be a seasoned artist. I want to win the Drawing Academy because I want to improve my art skills…

The Life of Rembrandt van Rijn

The Life of Rembrandt van Rijn

Article by Tina

On July 15, 1606 a baby boy by the name of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was born in the city of Leiden, Netherlands. His father was a miller named Gerritsz van Rijn. His mother was a baker’s daughter named Neeltgen Willemsdr van Zuytbrouck. Rembrandt had a total of 7 siblings (2 died during infancy). By 1640, only 4 of his siblings managed to make it to adulthood.

Rembrandt was enrolled in Latin school until age 14. By then he transferred to Leiden University. Bored with his courses, he eventually left the university to pursue something of greater interest: painting. His first art teacher was a man named Jacob van Swanenburgh who lived in Leiden. Rembrandt studied under Jacob for 3 years. Rembrandt then ventured to Amsterdam to learn under another master for 6 months, Pieter Lastman, who was especially gifted in the creation of historical paintings. As well as, Jan Pynas. Under both artists, Rembrandt learned subjects such as history and rhetorical gestures.

How to learn good drawing skills

Feedback and questions from István

I’ve been following this site for a while now and seeing the great artworks, friendly environment, and the professional and passionate care of the tutors; I decided to save up some money to one day enroll.

I really want to learn good drawing skills because so far I have been drawing for about a year now, with little to no success. I worked mostly with books, but none of them provided proper guidelines. They give me pictures, but I know that simple copying is no good. There are many videos on YouTube that offer thousands of ways to draw, but none of them seem professional.

Is there a specific routine I should follow when practicing? What order should I follow to achieve a broad sense of drawing?

Following the masters

Hello my name is Jean. I’m from Ecuador and I’ve been drawing since I was 7 years old, but I never took art seriously, just as a hobby and not like a way of living until I was in college and fell in love with it when I visited a friend’s gallery, this impacted me and it has become a great part in my life, from doing it for commission or for fun or a competition, to search everything about the history of art.

Never too old!

I am currently enjoying retirement with time to take on new interests. I was introduced to art as most children are. Drawing, finger-painting, paint by number, etc. I was one of those kids that just always had to be creating something. Usually animals.

I was lucky that the Toledo Art Museum offered a drawing course in perspective.

A lifetime aspiration

I was in the middle of a crisis, feeling that I was about to give up drawing and painting. The reason was that despite a certain natural ability I had never acquired any technical skills to elevate my level. All my projects got stuck at a point and I was unable to achieve what I had in mind.

As an example of this, I am sending a sketch I made long time ago of our dog as she was “sunbathing”. I was interested in bringing out the shadows of objects in the room projected on the wall and the figure: Unable!

Browsing the net as a last resort I came across the Drawing Academy page. I simply loved the sample materials.
