Study of Light and Dark
Artwork and story from Betty Huang
As a child we were not encouraged to draw or do arts. But I always felt that art is within me. So now I want to challenge myself and start my art’s journey to see how far it will take me.

Dear Fellow Artists, Friends, and Family,
I hope this message finds you well! My name is Jessica, and I am excited to be participating in the Drawing Academy Art Competition. I would be incredibly honored if you would consider voting for my artwork and supporting me in my artistic journey. Winning this competition would provide me with the opportunity to receive personalized feedback, hone my craft under expert guidance, and access new learning materials—all of which would be invaluable in unlocking my full potential as an artist.
My Story:
Art has become more than a passion for me—it’s a way of understanding the world and expressing the emotions that words can’t capture. My journey began after being inspired by a powerful painting I saw at my university, when learning to become a Special Needs Educator and Therapist in 2021. Since then, drawing has become my way of exploring vulnerability, strength, and connection.
The piece I am entering, Unveiled, represents my evolving perspective as an artist.
Big thanks to all Drawing Academy Art Competition – Autumn 2024 participants. We are also grateful to all supporters, who voted for the winners.
In nominating a winner, we considered how many votes the participants’ pages received from other people.
I’m Flavio. I’ve been drawing since I was little but only consistently and seriously about three years ago.
Hello, my name is Dante Dore and I am a student and scholar who has been practicing art in its many forms for nearly 20 years, however during these past few years I found myself lost and veered off the path of artistic enrichment. But it is a newfound inspiration that has brought me back and a newfound passion that I have found within the Drawing Academy to continue my journey.
I have been painting for over 80 years – yes, since I was 6 or 7 years old. I was an orphan and lived in a state run facility. My first and favorite recollection happened one Christmas when we were all given a box of crayons and a coloring book with tracing paper between each page. I was smitten. I spent many quiet hours on my stomach, on the floor, filling every page.
My name is Moonn and I love art with my entire being. Art and my life has been intertwined like pages in a book, taking up so much space that at times it seems that a pencil and a sketch book or a drawing tablet and it digital pen is all I am.
Nineteenth-century artist John William Waterhouse was inspired by the tales and myths of the Ancient Greek world. Circe, a curious figure from Greek mythology, was one of his favorites to study. He made three paintings with Circe.
Astrology has always been a point of interest in the history of art. In today’s popular culture and social media circles, Astrology is a trendy area accessible to almost everyone. This was not so before the twentieth century, it used to be practiced and admired by a tiny portion of the society.
Astrology is a technique that has been developed since very early ages. It is a tool to determine the quality of time. In the past, kings and queens consulted their astrologers to select the best times to decide or start a process. In a modern sense, Astrology can also benefit self-analysis and self-improvement. It is also a way to give meaning to the universe, which allows us to extend our imagination beyond our daily experience.
