Artwork and story from Claudia Fox

I’ve been drawing for quite a few years now as a child up till now, however I’ve not really paid attention to the theory of art much, and a lot of my drawing skills are based from observations and references. In the early years I began drawing using the basic paper and pen, however a couple years ago, I really got back into drawing again. This is when I discovered digital art and thought it was amazing so I bought myself a graphics tablet, which is what I’m currently mainly using. Although I do like to go back to traditional every now and again.

Since I’ve never really had art classes since my childhood, I’d love to learn the concepts of art. For example proportion, values etc. My biggest aspiration would be to get exceptionally good, so good that I’m able to make a living out of it. Drawing and painting for others. Having commissions would be really amazing.

I want to be able to draw from imagination and having to not look at reference images. I do practice and the work that I do without references may take several days to finish. Values is another skill I think I need to go over. I do know the main concepts of it but I struggle to get into very dark shadows without it looking off. I also struggle with perspective, it’s because of this that I mainly draw portraits of a face and not environments.

Most of the time I do not really think or pay attention what I’m actually focusing on. So this leads my artwork a little messy as it is not very clear where the light source should be. However when I do consciously think about this, it usually works a little better.

However values and perspective is I think a key area where I should be taught on how to work with values. This is because of the level of detail you have to go through to make it work.

I want to win this Competition and I need your help!
