The Vincent Vibe

Nothing could be more exciting and surreal for an artist to visit an area of the world where his favorite artist has lived and worked. In the fall of 2016 I had the great fortune to travel the south of France for a period of time. Most of us already know the Van Gogh life story, but actually walking in his past foot steps conjured up an emotional response for which I was not prepared.

Upon first entering the grounds of Saint Paul de Mausole in St. Remy France, a creepy vibe entered my realm that was unmistakably Vincent. This vibe immediately flooded my memory with all things Vincent, from his documented struggles outwardly and inwardly to an eerie chill ascending my spine…

Inner Workings

Hi! My name is Jayme and I live in Australia. I would describe myself as a quiet person and express myself through my drawings. Drawing is my passion and I particularly love to draw people and landscapes.

Since I was very young I have always enjoyed drawing – all I ever want for my birthday/Christmas is more drawing equipment. I feel that art is a very positive thing in my life and gives not only the artist but everyone who enjoys looking at art a very happy feeling.

Convey with Art

Hello there, I am Eima.

Ever since I was a little girl, I was inspired by animated shows to draw a lot. I mostly drew characters from shows I like. Then eventually, I made my own. Each has their own personality and stories. They also have their own worlds.

With those characters in their worlds, I would like to create a story through art. I believe I can convey meaningful messages through colors put on a canvas…

Question from Elizabeth

I want to ask a question regarding graphite strokes used in drawing.

In these videos you mention that hatching is best:

However, I use little circles (like what colored pencil artists use).

My question is, is this an inappropriate stroke to use for graphite drawings? Thanks!

If life is got a meaning…

My name is Danilo, I’m 21 years old, from Colombia, a philosophy student. I love art, from painting to acting, writing, making music, even photography and film-making, but most of all drawing since it has always been part of my life.

In the cultural background where I grew up there was no such thing as a meaning in art education so I never studied in any formal way, even though that I never stopped drawing.

Drawings and questions from Jeff, Drawing Academy student

I continue to attend figure drawing sessions from time to time. Recently, I did these two drawings in blue Prismacolor Premier colored pencil. Each drawing was based on a single 20-minute pose. I tried to improve the models’ faces based on your video lessons on how to draw a mouth, nose, ears, etc. However, I still find it difficult, especially when I only have 20 minutes to complete the whole drawing. I am interested in any feedback you have for me.
