The Edge

My name is NiKole, and I am a busy mom to five kids. I love the outdoors, and I love to see new things and then drawing or painting them.

I love art. I have found that it is such a fabulous way to de-stress, and I love when my kids get involved and join in.

I have learned that as a mom who doesn’t have large chunks at a time to paint, pan watercolors and pencil are the perfect medium. I love seeing a beautifully lit scene and trying to capture it.

I have two challenges in art – the first is time management and making sure that I keep up with drawing consistently and not letting other things get in the way, and the other is my own perfectionism. Too often, a good idea stays in my head because I am afraid I won’t be able to get it on the paper the way I want…

Cherished Memories

I am 57 years old and live aboard with my husband on a sailboat. I am blessed with the opportunity to travel to many countries, and meet interesting people from many different cultures, traditions and lifestyles. I’m not a great writer but, I keep a journal and write about the places I visit and my experiences with the local people I meet along the way. Along with writing I like to incorporate photos or drawings ( I would say dabbles) to correlate with the stories I write about the places and people in my journal.

I enjoy drawing. I’m self taught but need a lot of help. Getting tips from YouTube and reading “How To Do” doesn’t provide the fundamentals skills required to acquire good drawings skills.

Drawing Academy provides the fundamental foundation skills that have been used from the master artist has proven to display drawings as realistic…

Pen and Ink Drawing by Ronnie Rayner Larter

Going Dotty

This is an example of a wheel I did a while ago showing what can be done with pen and ink using just dots and solid tone. Although this is drawing is quite static and looks more like an illustration than fine art, it still shows the versatility of the pen…

Here’s what Mohamad Magdy says:

“First, I want to thank Drawing Academy teachers for this wonderful course; it is very helpful.

I work as an art director in Dubai. My formal education is in ancient art and civilizations, so to compliment it, I needed to study how to draw casts, it was very important for me.

After enrolling in the Drawing Academy course, I found all the help needed. Drawing video lessons are very good; I’ve learned how to draw and express exactly what I want.

I like that the Drawing Academy teaches how to draw using traditional drawing techniques. I have learned what style the Old Master used, necessary information on drawing materials, principles of constructive drawing, proper tonal rendering techniques, rules of proportions and measurements and so on.

I do recommend the Drawing Academy course to all art students and of all levels. This course is suitable for beginners as well as advanced students.

Also, in the Drawing Academy, you will find all the help and assistance from the academy tutors…

The Colors of Murano – Italy

This painting was inspired from the extraordinary contrasting colors we find the Italian landscape, in this case in the narrow canals of Murano, located just across the lagoon from Venice.

I worked my way first with a solid drawing of the scene, obeying linear perspective (one or two points) and I didn’t start laying paint until I was satisfied with the base drawing.

My focal point is the blue cargo boat in the foreground, but the buildings in the background with the strong color variations and even broken stucco are hard to ignore…

Taking a Good Look at Myself

My name is Christie Nicklay and I was born 50 years ago in Southeast Minnesota. I am a contemporary realism and sometimes painterly artist who works primarily in acrylics and oils, but also enjoy watercolor, pencil, pastels, colored pencil and pen and ink.

My artistic journey began as a child when I would draw anything and everything on anything and everything I could find. I drew constantly. There was a time when you could even find my artwork on the walls of my father’s dairy barn. Early on, teachers recognized and encouraged my artistic abilities. Eventually, I became the primary artist for my high school newspaper, clubs and organizations. As I grew, I had dreams of being a doctor, but my father encouraged me to attend school for my art, which I did and acquired my Commercial Art and Fine Art degrees…

Wanna be an artist

I am a carpenter specializing in designing and building Outdoor Living Spaces. I.e. Decks, Patios, Walkways and Outdoor Kitchens.

I took up photography for an artistic release because I always had trouble with freehand drawing especially proportions. Then I was introduced to the Andrew Loomis method and we’ll look at my submission.

Although that is copying, I want to be a real artist and I truly believe Drawing Academy will help me to accomplish this…
