“Mikey D” – The Chiropractor/Artist
I am a widowed, single father of three children. I am a Chiropractor by profession. I also have FSH Muscular Dystrophy. I was diagnosed in November 2004. In October of 2008, I could no longer practice due to my condition. When I was a pre-adolescent, I realized that I was able to draw. Was able to look at images in magazines and mostly comic books and recreate them in a pencil drawing. My talent was very raw at first, but the more I drew the better my drawings were. As I got older there would be periods where I would drawing all the time. And there were also periods where I wouldn’t draw for months or years. No matter how much time passed, the quality of my drawings never diminished…

I want to improve!
I would like to transition into fine painting and drawing from more craft-type mediums.
I have been a fine craft artist, but my true love is fine art and painting. Now I finally have time to pursue my fine art goals.
Understanding tonal values and then accurately depicting them is challenging to me and I would like to be able to see them more quickly so that I can draw from real life. It takes me a very long time to see the values, especially the mid-tones. My goal is to draw portraits from real life and this requires accuracy PLUS speed because people move while sitting. After I get faster at drawing I want to understand more about color, too.
The Drawing Academy is the perfect vehicle for me to improve. The step by step approach and excellent guidance suits my learning style

Art from Imagination Improvement
Hi! My name’s Rayne, and my life revolves around art. It is the most important thing to me and I would like to improve my art skills to achieve my goals. My challenges in art are mostly getting things to look realistic when I am drawing from imagination.
I want to learn how to draw humans better and how to draw from my imagination better. I also would like to learn the beautiful crosshatching that I see on this website…
He said, she said. Susanna and the Elders
Article by Jimena Escoto
“Women are from Venus and men are from Mars.” Surely, you’ve heard and said this phrase at least once. It is a common way of referring to the widely different views in which women and men see the world. As we see an artwork, we cannot make the assumption that such representation is the only and true one.
Every artist prioritize what he or she thinks it is necessary and interprets the scene from his or her point of view. That is why we find in some artworks that depict similar stories different messages. An example of it is the biblical story of Susanna and the elders…

Paying It Forward
I would like to work with underprivileged young adults who like to draw and paint, using their study and practice of art as a way to help plant in them a feeling of self worth and legitimacy.
If I win a Drawing Academy course, I would like to use your videos as a curriculum for a program of arts education that I can volunteer in offering to underserved areas in my community.

Walking in Dreams
I’ve been painting and drawing since I was very young. I’m passionate about the world around me and curious of it. I love the outdoors and hold a degree in wildlife management. However, my true passion is art. It’s the very air I breathe and an integral part of who I am. If unable to work on my art I feel as though I’m at full stop, but as long as I at least have a sketch pad and pencil the world seems more right, even in it’s darkest moments.
I challenge most with background details and always have, I like the foreground more I think. The foreground is the part that really hits you in the face, but I also love a paintings or drawings that contain, not necessarily fine detail but intriguing detail throughout the background as well. And scale can be tricky depending on the subject matter.
