Art is a beautiful skill that I wish I could acquire!

Hi everyone, I’m Salh and I’m a 23 guy from Algeria. I’ve been introduced to art a few years back by a friend and I have fallen in love with it ever since, the way it allows me to see more colors where ever I look and the way simple things are all of a sudden much more complicated and interesting, the sky is no longer a solid blue and a rock is no longer a block of randomness, I absolutely love being able to see more of the world.

Question from Victoria

I am a portrait painter and narrative painter. Unfortunately, I have had to be dependent on photos because I am unable to do live sittings with my subjects due to time constraints and the ages of my subjects, so my life drawing skills are very weak, though I continue to sketch daily.

Here’s my question – How to get correct foreshortening using values?

Hello,

It has been a while since I sent anything; life has been very busy and hectic. I have been drawing—not as much as I wish, but I have.  

These are studies of skulls morphing into the flesh, trying to understand the underlying structure and outer elements.  

The structural drawing remains a challenge for me. I do realize, though, that any problem usually stems from not getting the structure right from the beginning. I realize I lack patience in that step; I just want to get going.  ..

AM I FINALLY ON THE RIGHT TRACK?

Yes! I think I am. Now that I’ve found the Old Masters Academy and the Drawing Academy, I definitely will be able to improve my art. With such precise and concise drawing and painting lessons I believe I will be able to understand the traditional methods and techniques and implement them in my own artwork.

I am 66 years old and I took my retirement 10 years ago. I was a coordinator and surgical assistant in oral surgery. Being a mother of four children and having a very demanding profession I never had time for my personal interests. I always deeply loved drawing and painting.

Digitally coloring rough sketches from the old masters of the renaissance

What I learned and How it changed my life.

THE BEGINNING

I was a comic book colorist for years when I had decided to join the navy and I was living in Italy for three years with lots of time on my hands. I really had little interesting the drawings and paintings of the renaissance at the time. I was fan of comics and cartoons. I never really saw why I had to learn all that stuff if thats wasn’t what I wanted to do. But living in Italy I got to travel a lot and visited a lot of museums and slowly this idea started to build in my head.

As I traveled to different museums around Europe I slowly noticed I gravitated towards old sketches and etchings. This crazy idea of taking them and painting them in with photoshop really started with me buying a high quality print of Michelangelo’s sketch, known as the fury, it was such a beautiful and powerful sketch. I decided to scan it and color it in. As a comic colorist I’ve taken pencil sketches and done similar things before and I just loved the way it turned out. So I wanted to do more.

Where is the Little Boy?

I am an older woman who wants to get back to painting! I am retired, have three grown children, no grandchildren. I’ve always loved to draw and paint, and prefer watercolors. Not painting for a long time has left a big hole in my life, and I am eager to get back to it. I know I am very rusty and need instruction. Isn’t there always something new to learn about art? Drawing Academy looks like an excellent organization. Years back, I received art instruction and critiquing by mail, and it was great! I learned so much, and enjoyed receiving the instructor’s comments on my work. Today I was searching online for something similar, and came across Drawing Academy.

My name is Ian, and I am an artist. I have been drawing for 11 years now and my goal is to become a skilled and well-known artist.

I enjoy making art for people and for my school and community. I like art for fun and hope it will be better than it is now, so I can make it into a career.

I have some challenges in art with hands, some body shapes, styled emotions, and eye expressions. I want to learn how to draw hands, as well as feet, and facial expressions more easily than I do now from memory.

Learning from courses at Drawing Academy will help me learn how to overcome my challenges, build my skill level, and increase my potential for making art a career in my future.
