I started drawing and painting after I retired from my day job. After spending time and money on three courses at drawing at an university extra-mural program, I felt that I have not benefited as much as I deserved – and I have to make a decision. Either I give up drawing altogether, and look for something else to pass my time, or I should forget about learning from these paid teachers and do it on my own. As a result of deciding on self teaching, I purposely chose to learn human portraiture, simply because that I think that that genre of drawing would be the most challenging. I would cut photographs from newspapers and magazines (or any other sources), 5 to 10 pictures a day, and just doodled and copied studiously for a year…
My name is Luca Molnar and I’m a painter from Hungary. I completed my BA studies in Illustration and Graphic Design at the University of Hertfordshire 2 years ago. I was working as an illustrator for 6 years, however about a year ago I decided to leave the advertising world for good and I became a full time painter. I love painting and I know for sure that this is what I would love to do for the rest of my life. I also know that I still have so much to learn! I’ve never really appreciated contemporary art, my heroes are Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Salvador Dali. I have always admired their technique, my dream is to learn to draw and paint like the renaissance masters. I’ve been searching for a good drawing course for quite…
The Drawing Academy is a MUST for anyone interested in bettering their skills. I have seen my work vastly improve as a result of the Drawing Academy course!
FYI, I attended and graduated with honors from College in Commercial Art and realized when I started the Drawing Academy program that I had never even been taught the proper way to hold a pencil!
I spent hours in an Illustration class for months and months but learned more from the Drawing Academy in the first lesson than I learned in a two-year curriculum in college! The cost of my education was $14,000 – the money for the Drawing Academy is a fraction of that and worth 10 times more than my college education! It’s a lifetime of benefit and a priceless gift!

Denise
A couple of weeks ago, we asked for your help to provide feedback on DrawingAcademy.com. The response was overwhelming. We received many suggestions and critiques. All your feedback is very constructive and helpful. Thank you so very much for your support and participation. We listened to your suggestions and will gradually improve the Drawing Academy, so that it will become even more helpful and useful to you. There are many things we have already implemented, and many more will be released going forward. We promised to award the five most helpful contributors with a full Drawing Academy membership. It was a tough decision to choose winners from such a great pool of critiques and suggestions! Every point each of you made is valid and appreciated; we value all of your feedback. Nonetheless, we nominated the…
Dear Drawing Academy Team,
A few months ago, I became a member of the Drawing Academy and always enjoy returning to this course. Your last video “Drawing from Photos vs. Drawing from Life” has confused me a little. I think many artists draw from photos. Unfortunately, we are not all Nikolai Blokhins, and we use your course to improve our drawing skills. The point that gives me a headache now is this: Where is the line between a realistic representation and the exact copying of photographs? …
The new release tutorial on perspective is a great overview. I have been working on this skill. I made an Albertian perspective box, using a photo-frame with a wide flat wooden frame that can sit on my desk. I inserted a ten inch grid on a piece of acetate behind the glass. I looked through that, sighting with a vision marker and drawing on another matching grid with a piece of tracing paper overlay, marking off what I saw – slowly but surely. And I’m referring to some of my reference photos and attempting to put them into construction drawing….
When using the Golden Ratio, how do you decide how to place items within the rule? Its very confusing to me. I’d like to learn this method to create better compositions…
