About 2 years ago I took a beginning drawing course and discovered that with encouragement and training I CAN DRAW.

I enjoy drawing and am learning a lot from library books and free internet lessons. I’ve also been helping a teaching artist at a senior center so I can learn from what she is teaching others.

Drawing Academy lessons are well-structured and my learning will be accelerated by a planned course.

I am a disciplined learner and I’m already sharing what I know with others…

I hadn’t been drawing for years and then when I retired I joined the Senior Center in town. I was lucky to join an art class that had a retired art teacher as the instructor and she was a wonderful inspiration. This pencil sketch is the product of her great instruction and patience. A good teacher is something to be admired…

I was inspired by the Victor Koulbak art article.

Here is my latest entry of a Pietro Annigoni painting, “Modella en Posa.” I hope you like it.

Some tips. Lay the ground with many coats so you can scratch off the silverpoint like an eraser without cutting into paper. Use old silver spoons, jewelry, earrings. Better silver than store bought stylus. You can layout drawing in charcoal or pencil and highlight in white chalk. Masters did it in charcoal before laying down the silverpoint…

I am Pabu and I see some drawings looking real as if its breathing and has life. Those kinds of drawings were my inspiration. Starting to learn and every time I draw even a simple one it teaches many things.

One should be able to draw what he thinks and Drawing Academy is one such which guides artists in that direction.

Well of course my name is Brian and art is my passion. Its been a gateway for me to leave all the messy situations I’ve been in and escape away in my own mind. I wasn’t like much by my peers or family and was considered to be an outcast often because of how I acted or the way I dressed and such. I could never figure out the answer to change any of those things. It would often hurt my heart that I had to change who I was for people to accept me (even my family). But when I was around 5 or 6 I discovered a passion for sketching, recreating, and designing different things. By the time I reached middle school I was drawing on t-shirts and sketching fake tattoos on random kids. High school I developed my skill and improved. Current day now that I’m 21 I love drawing. Sometimes id do tattoos or paint but nothing was more better then Wilding a pencil and creating whatever came to mind on that paper…

My story is not that much different than many other people in this art competition. I am an older person returning to art after not drawing very much for many years. I did not take an art class when I was in high school, I always sort of knew that I could draw.

When I first went to college, I started out as a journalism major, but did not like the program. After some soul searching, I decided to pursue art as a major. So I applied to my university’s fine arts department, put together a portfolio and got accepted into the program. Eventually receiving my BFA in drawing. Like many university art programs, they were mainly about teaching creativity.They made the work of the ‘old masters’ seem outdated and historical. Students today are very lucky to have the internet as a learning resource. I wish it was around when I was in school …
