Question from Justin

I want to enroll in the Drawing Academy course. Can you provide a suggested shopping list?

I know the first three lessons mention which supplies to get, but a list and possibly places to order online would be fantastic…

Review and artworks from Lindsay Gordon, Drawing Academy graduate

Thank you for art courses!

Review and artworks from Lindsay Gordon, Drawing Academy graduate

I am a 77-year old male retiree who has been searching for an activity that is creative and fulfilling in my twilight years. My home is in Melbourne, Australia but I am currently staying with my daughter for three months in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

I have been quite creative with my photography over many years but found it a little too easy to produce very good results. After retiring several years ago I took up wood-turning and produced many very nice pieces but had to give it up because it was so messy in a home environment and became quite dangerous when I developed shaking hands as a side effect of medication for a mild heart condition. What both wood-turning and photography showed me is that I do have a bit of a creative streak in me…

Art is a shadow of life

Artwork by Aras Saber

Hi I am Aras Saber, I am a visual artist and have just completed my 3 years art program in Toronto Ontario, Canada. I like to work in a realistic manner but I change appearance a bit for my emotional, expressive venture. Basically for the most part I learned my art education from reading art books instruction…

For The Love of Art

Artwork by Eileen R Weaver

I want to paint in the same style of the old masters fully learning the steps and layered style which they used from start to end. We should be learning and passing on time honored technique for future generations. I see everything in the high skills of the old masters but do not have the knowledge to attempt the stages to bring about the required result …

Still Life – Tools of the Trade

Artwork by Dan S., Drawing Academy student

Here is a still life that depicts all of the tools needed by the the sketch artist.

It is drawn in two-point perspective with the light from above and to the left slightly.

The drawing includes a sketch book at the foundation, a supplementary drawing text (for that extra bit of information) by an Italian artist ( who better than the Italians?), several pencils of varying hardness, including the workhorse “HB” variety and a couple of sanguine pencils thrown in as well. It also includes five erasers (three gum and two rubber) because some of us need more erasing than others, an Exact-o sharpener to keep those pencils razor sharp, a soft brush to brush away the rubber bits (or cracker crumbs after a quick snack – even artists have to eat)…

Beauty Arrived Last Night!

Artwork by Yogesh Bamni

In this painting there is a small story.

One morning 5:10 AM, I was on the way to my gym. Suddenly I saw some light in one window. One girl was getting ready for morning walk, when I was looking at her, she looked at me and I saw her beautiful face in dim yellow light. It was Awesome, I went back to my room and I draw this painting…

Art- a visual representation of self and unconscious being

Artwork by Cami Lintz

Hello! My name is Cami Lintz and I am a 17 year old self-taught artist. Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, I never had too many opportunities other than in school to fully immerse myself within an art lesson. I was more or less left to venture into the wonderful world of the internet and learn through trial and experience on how to draw.

If you open my google page right at this moment, you will find unending searches on ‘How to draw realistically’ and countless YouTube tutorials already viewed over at least 10 times. I feel like as an artist, I’ve learned all I can through conventional art courses. And being where I live, there are few opportunities in my area to take many art classes suited to my skill and age group…

Wannabe artist starving for more art education

Artwork by Priska Flandorfer

I’m a freelance artist located in Vienna, Austria. I’m interested in art since my teenage years but due to my lack of self-confidence back these days, I never dared to believe I could draw.

I never met one of my two grandmothers, they were dead before I was born. From one of them I own some of her drawings and paintings. She mastered both these forms of art and I thought, why not try it too. Although I never met her, I can now connect with her by knowing how it is to learn such a wonderful skill.

So I took a good book from Barrington Barber and began to seriously start learning to draw. Anyone who tries something new, knows that only persistence is the key to success. I made progress and had a lot of fun while drawing…
