Marko Djokov – Charcoal and pastel drawing

Artwork by Marko Djokov Ivanovic

My name is Marko. I am from Montenegro.

I started drawing when I was very young, and also I learnt two alphabets( Latin and Cyrillic ) when I was 2. When I was 5 I did realistic portraits.

All my life art was my love, my passion, and more than that. But, unfortunately, none supported me to continue improving my art knowledge and making art. My friends, my neighbors, my professors, even my parents and family were against my desire and plans to study in the Academy of Fine Arts. They told me that I should study maths and physics at electrical engineering faculty, because sciences offers me more opportunities, and safer life. And I didn’t have any choice. I left drawing and painting, and I enrolled in High school. Also, I graduated from the Faculty of Electrical engineering. So, I haven’t drawn for 13 years. And all of a sudden, I saw street artist drawing, and I said to myself: ‘Marko, you should start painting!!!!’…

It has been a tremendous improvement for me since I’ve taken the Drawing Academy course. Here is the recreation follow one of da Vinci’s drawing, however, I sneaked in a bit of my own shading.

Talaya Lightbourne’s Artistry

Artwork by Talaya Lightbourne

Hi, everyone. My name is Talaya Lightbourne. I’m a 21 year old student pursuing my dream to become an artist. At age 11, I discovered that art was my passion and creative outlet, from middle school to high school I have taken all art classes. However, when I graduated high school due to finances i had to go to a college not of my choosing and the majors were limited, in the end I stuck with a major that didn’t align with my true path in life which is art. Now, I am starting over again to get back into my artistry and to become the artist I was born to be…

My Amour with Art continues…

Artwork by

I have a Masters degree in Computer Science and worked in the software industry for 16 years. Having to manage a family and a demanding career took a toll on my health and 4 years back I gave up my job and went back to my childhood passion – art. Art has been therapeutic in so many ways, restoring my mental health and wellbeing. I don’t think I could have survived this change in my lifestyle without art.

I started with acrylic and oil, but the medium I find most challenging and close to my heart is water colours. I love putting in people, especially children in my paintings. Since I have never had any formal training in drawing, I find it difficult to get the right posture and the right proportions. I am a regular reader of Drawing Academy newsletter and after going through the free art instructional material in this website, I think that I would really benefit from your course, especially since Drawing Academy puts so much emphasis on learning from the old masters and the age-old, proven, traditional drawing methods…

Art Diploma vs. Art Skills

Art Diploma vs. Art Skills

Questions from Andy

I like what I see on the Drawing Academy website and would like to enroll. However, I have few questions:

– What your Diploma is about?
– How Drawing Academy compares to an art college?
– What art materials do I need?
– Will academy tutors critique my artworks?

Thanks,
Andy

Setting up a work-space in art studio

Question from Daniel, Drawing Academy student

Hi, could you give me some advice how to set up my work-space properly?

Right now I feel very limited because my room is quite small and I draw on my computer table with my computer screen in front and it feels quite uncomfortable. I don’t have a drawing board yet either, however I will get one.

And because of this, drawing from life becomes hard for me as I don’t have space to set things up properly. I have to look at pictures on my screen if I want to draw something. Is it OK to take pictures of things I want to draw and upload them to my computer, or do I simply have to get a bigger room? I assume I need a bit of distance between me and the object I want to draw right? And that is not possible for me right now….

Teacher goes back to school

Artworks by Eric Champion, Drawing Academy graduate

I have an art degree from a respected University Graphic Design program. I designed professionally for years. Today, I teach high school art.

I was drawn to the Drawing Academy because the drawings and styles they teach were different from my education. I was intrigued by “classical drawing.”

As I have watched the series of videos and participated in the lessons, I’m really glad I made the investment. It has made me a better artist and teacher…
