I started painting late — at 66 — and it was the right time.
A civil engineer by profession, I spent my life dealing with concrete, roads, and deadlines. But there was always an itch: the need to build something less stable, more fragile, more my own.
My name is Carla Honaker. I have had a desire to be an artist since I was old enough to hold a pencil. One of my favorite classes when I was in school was my art class. Art is one of the joys of my life and a way for me to be creative and share how I view the world from my perspective.
My name is Ananya, and I’m from Calcutta, India. I have dreamed of being a professional artist since my teens. Up until this point I worked in education. It wasn’t until I was 29 that I was able to take a professional course in Florence, Italy. This changed everything for me and made me believe that I can pursue art, even now and it’s not too late. The academic training made me determined to better myself in my work and practice. I could only attend a short course in drawing and painting, since it was quite expensive. I’m an experimental painter, not an academic one. To me, art is the true reflection of life — full of desires and emotions. Fine arts are a form of human will that take shape on canvas or cardboard.
My name is Tayabah Hana, and I am an aspiring artist. For me, art is not just an activity — it is how I process emotions and experiences, and a way to give form to what I sometimes cannot express in words. Art is where I feel most true to myself.
I have been drawing and painting since High school since the 1990s, I have always been passionate about art. My favorite artistic subjects are both the realism and naturalism type. My favorite historical artists are Rembrandt, Caravaggio, and Utamaro. I like to paint with oil medium and also to draw. My favorite themes are portraits from mythology, historical figures, and sceneries.
