I started teaching myself metal point drawing in the year 2000. Of course with no classes to take it was all teach myself. I did find that for support I used liquid white gesso with zinc oxide, then thinned it out and used an airbrush to apply the support to my board or paper. The airbrush gives a much smoother surface than any brush I ever found (no sanding). Put on 10-12 coats of the diluted mixture and it works fine…

Art, especially visual art, has always ‘been there’ for me … but life got in the way a lot of the time and I neglected art for decades. I was even told by an art teacher, when I was young, that “you don’t need teaching, you just need to be left alone!” because I had an intuitive feel for some aspects of art. I was raised in a very small rural town in Alaska with no real access to art classes or training. Most of what I have learned about drawing and art, I have taught myself.
