Soli Deo Gloria
Story and artwork from Soli Deo Gloria (Kirsten Campbell)
This piece is called Incurvatus Exterius. It is the antithesis of Saint Augustine’s phase “incurvatus in se” which means “turned or curved inward on oneself”; a life bent toward and for oneself rather than outward toward God and others. It is a life that seeks all things for itself, using people, giftings, money, time, etc. to gratify its own cravings and promotion. I sought 30 years ago to go in the opposite direction like this dancer – incurvatus exterius: unbending myself to seek to bless God and seek His will, sacrifice my own wants and desires for the good of other people, to serve them, bless them, and love them to the best of my ability (yes, I have failed in this endeavor more times than I’d like to admit). I had majored in art in college, but gave up perusing an art career to be a missionary and share the love of Christ. After I got married and had kids I decided to put my kids first and homeschool them which took up most of my time and energy leaving very little time to do art.
Now that my last daughter in getting close to adulthood I have found my heart stirring once again to pursue art, but have found there is so much lacking in my skills and education.
I believe that doing the Drawing Academy course would give me not only valuable practice of the skills I already possess, but fill in the huge gaps that I find myself lacking. I have a long way to go, but I am excited to start the journey, enjoying one step at a time.
I am humbled and grateful for any vote I get. I have no social media so I won’t be promoting myself or sending a link to anyone to vote for me. Blessings.
