Feeling a little Byronic!
Story and artwork from Callum Maclaren
I love art! have loved it since I was a child, when I used to look through my parents books on artists like Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet and Manet.
I tried to copy some of these art works, but I felt there was something wrong with just copying even though I learned something from it. It did teach me an appreciation for art though that has never left me. Some kids would much rather play video games than go to an art gallery, but not me.
I loved galleries and museums and I still do! I never received much actual art instruction from school as they did not really teach us how to draw. We were kind of left to our own devices. It did help me become creative! But I became very frustrated. I felt like my work was original, but I was not satisfied.
I have been doing art on and off for years because I had plenty of inspiration, but I lacked good instruction and direction.
For me, I would love to learn the traditional drawing techniques such as those still taught in some European academies, but I cannot afford that.
In fact, I am currently out of work like many people on this planet.
I think the Drawing Academy is absolutely amazing! If I could take this incredible course I believe I could greatly improve my own drawing skills. I could learn about proper proportions, shading and so on. I know my portrait is not perfect.
I used a mirror and not a photo, I was actually proud of it because I think I captured my likeness and personality. I’m somewhat introverted and shy, but I’m a very passionate person inside.
Now I realize there are many things I can improve such as the shading which is too dark. My hair does actually look really stringy by the way! If you vote for me you will provide me with a little ray of sunshine. To be able to do the Drawing Academy course would be a dream come true for me and it would give me something precious that I would be ever grateful for.
Thank you very much for reading my story.
