I started teaching myself metal point drawing in the year 2000. Of course with no classes to take it was all teach myself. I did find that for support I used liquid white gesso with zinc oxide, then thinned it out and used an airbrush to apply the support to my board or paper. The airbrush gives a much smoother surface than any brush I ever found (no sanding). Put on 10-12 coats of the diluted mixture and it works fine…

The Appeal of Hatching
The main attraction for me about enrolling with the Drawing Academy is because of the old master techniques that are taught, which cannot be found in any mainstream art school. My drawing skills were quite good before I enrolled with the Drawing Academy and most of my shading, especially with graphite pencil, was rendered by smudging to obtain smooth tones, which was my main fall-down.
During the Drawing Academy course I had learnt one vital piece of information, not to smudge graphite…

Exploring what I know
While I am understanding perspective more and more, and practicing the vanishing points, etc. I always think it refreshing to take a break and draw something out of the blue…
