Hello, my name is Claudia Olivos, I am a native of Chile, currently residing in Washington DC.

I have been drawing since before I could walk. My father was a painter and I grew up going to museums with him in Mexico and New York City, art has always been an integral part of me.

My papa died when I was 17 years old and I stopped making art for a year in his honor.

A year later, partly to get away from an abusive home- I married and soon became a mama… I continued to paint and even studied painting, but I was never formally “taught”-not really-most of the college courses were based on “critiques” never on technique, so although I have a degree… I am really and truly: self taught, and I feel my art would benefit greatly from formal lessons as those offered here. *fingers & toes crossed to win*…

My names is Jonathan Andrade and I am a self taught artist from Chicago. Since a young age, art has always caught my attention and has continued to spark my creativity throughout the years. At the age of 9, I began drawing alongside a good friend of mine, we began with creating our own comic books. I would draw everyday practicing in order to become better at what to me at the time was a hobby. I started at first experimenting with pencils, slowly but surely I began to use from crayons to color pencils and pastels. As the years passed and my interest grew, I learned more about the art world and all its different mediums available which allowed me to begin to expand my horizons…

My name is Marcel. I’m from Slovakia. I paint and draw since childhood and always want my pictures to show things as they really are. My passion leads me to learning and exploring the language of symbolism, which allows me to tell stories and reach human inside.

I was fascinated by paintings of old well-known painters, however, I didn’t have an opportunity to study fine arts at a specialized school. Nevertheless, I studied alone, read and I looked at paintings. Later, I saw paintings in the Vatican Museum, Michelangelo fresca and sculptures, Carravagio, Tiepollo, Da Vinci, Rembrandt; these paintings fascinated me.

I did a lot of portraits and landscapes in pencil, pastel, and oil. But I know that I need to learn. ..

I love to draw and paint all day and all night.

I want to win to learn more and more new things and new techniques. I am trying to find my own personal way. I have been trying to teach myself from books and you-tube videos and now I would like to teach me your Art Academy. I love hours and hours studying all famous painters and I am studying the history of art.This course would be invaluable to me. This course will be moral victory for me. I live in Greece with my husband and I have two children.

Shhhh… I have a secret. I have two impediments to becoming a great artist: One, I am technically colorblind; two, I am a new “rightie” ~ due to a slight accident, I am now teaching myself to switch from my left- to my right-hand.

Living in a color-sighted world, I quickly learned that roses are red and violets are blue, socks come in pairs and are easily matched and, most of the time, clothing is labeled. If I accidentally pair an article of clothing that is not traditionally paired together, color-wise, I am often credited with making a bold statement: to which I respond with a big smile.

It wasn’t until I was given an eye test that my colorblindness was discovered. “What number do you see in the circle?” the technician asked me. “Which circle?” I responded.

The entire circle was made up of colors and apparently there was a number inside it made up of differing colors so as to see a contrast. It is contrasts and hues that I do not “see”. As much as I would love to see what others view in an impressionist painting, for example, I’m sorry to say that most of the composition fades from my view. I do not perceive light colors, and often times confuse reds and blues and purples and grays, but I am of the opinion that I imagine them in my mind’s eye. ..

I’m an Art Therapist graduated by the Anthroposophic school line and I help people’s Healing and Self-Knowledge processes.

Graduated also as a Graphic Designer and passionated by Sacred Geometry, I use it as tools for Creation of Sacred Symbols, Logos and more.

I always had a very naive drawing style and enjoyed to play with my inner child drawing a lot that way.

Last year I had only 3 private drawing classes and I jumped to a completely new level…

I came across the “Old Masters Method’s” of classical drawing and painting when I lived in Rome about 2 years ago.

It was love at first sight. Unfortunately I could not afford to study at a one of the Schools/Atelier that taught this method. I am now back home in Cape Town and have been trying to teach myself mostly from books and you-tube videos. This course would be invaluable to me. I would love to eventually start selling my work, but I lack the confidence and need that extra guidance and help to take my drawing to the next level…

My name is Gilberto Mello, l live now in Houston, TX, but originally come from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Despite my age (I won’t tell you!) I consider myself a young artist who seeks inspiration in nature as well as in man-made creations, such as cityscapes. I learned the drawing and painting of portraits in New York City; I find it very challenging and I try hard to hone my skills in every piece I make.

This one that I present here came from a picture posed by my niece (yes, I draw and paint from both live models and pictures), a recent graduate from acting school, posed in one of her character representations as Medea. I loved the pose and I decided to give it a try on canvas. I mostly did her face and upper body from picture. The rest, including background, grass and pic-nic sheet were fruits of my own imagination.

I am entering this contest because I enjoy what I learned from Web Art and Drawing Academies, in fact Medea is the first work I do after my lessons from these two wonderful fine art courses. With all honesty, I don’t hope to win, but I truly hope to be noticed by other young artists and friends out there in the world…
