My Love of Art!

Artwork by Lavina Kueker

I’m 63 yrs old, I grew up loving art. In my late teens and early 20’s I sold several pieces, as I grew old life happened and became a widow with 2 children to rear. So the responsibilities of this life took me away from my first love, art! Five year ago I became disabled and for the first time did not know what to do with my life.

I heard an Italian sing group made up of three teenagers called “Il Volo”, Falling in love with their beautiful music, they spoke of following their dreams and that anyone can dream! So two year later I said why not. I purchased what I needed and began sketching again. Though very crude at first, it finally started coming back. I have been selling some pieces again and I sketch daily, but even at my age I know there is still much to learn. I cannot get out because of my disability, but I can learn and that is what I want to do! …

Artworks by Javier, Drawing Academy student

Dear tutors,

I always liked to draw, but I never learned to have a solid foundation in traditional drawing skills.

A short time ago I wanted to dedicate myself to learning seriously, and so I enrolled in the Drawing Academy. I’m very pleased with the course.

I’m learning a lot with lessons and exercises. This course provides a solid foundation, and I noticed my progress in this short time.

I would like to show you some of the drawings I have done by following the first lessons: drawing in perspective, drawings of still-life objects, drawing by rendering shades and drawing of a front and profile face…

In 2009 I began to draw. My skills rapidly increased and in 2013 I began to do art shows to sell my work. Although I was making a little money on the side I felt that if I improved my skills in drawing I would be able to make a living in the wonderful world of art. During the past 2 years I have sunk my heels into books and videos to try to teach myself the techniques I needed to become a successful artist…

Portrait of a Girl after Nikolai Blohkin

Artwork by Dan S., Drawing Academy student

I thought this was a unique point of view for a portrait (profile from slightly below). Working the hair was a challenge and a learning experience. I really like the fact that he used a round reflective object (the ear ring) and the hair band. These make the portrait more interesting…
