I have recently started drawing and although I’m making progress with the techniques thanks to YouTube videos, I am only able to draw from photos so far. I really would like to change that.

Retired Eye surgeon with a lifelong interest in Art, but never the time to apply my limited skills. Since retirement six months ago I have started painting but felt that I need some training. I started the Anatomy Master Class, which I found quite incredible, best thing I could have done. I do figurative work as well as landscapes. I hope to have a first exhibition later this year in London where I live…

Personal thoughts and a drawing of my nephew

Drawing and story by Chris J., Drawing Academy student

Greetings,

I am excited to have just only today become a lifetime member with this exceptional course from generous, artistic and thoughtful providers who are unselfishly providing this material. What a privilege.

I used to enjoy drawing and did a diploma in fine arts some years ago after high school finished. But because of high expectations or perhaps unattainable standards I had placed upon myself at a deeper concious level, I became discouraged, and stopped drawing because I thought I would never overcome some milestones in technicalities and struggles with certain elements of drawing, and painting was the same problem. I was frustrated with my drawing attempts, because I wanted them to look convincing and bring me satisfaction. Perfectionism was the underlying culprit I believe, sapping my freedom and desire to draw, handcuffing my flow. I would entertain all kinds of doubts about myself such as “there must be something wrong with me, everyone else has got something that I just seemed to have missed out on, that I simply don’t have, I will never be able to draw!”
I have recently resurrected my passion for enjoyment in drawing since a rather long intermission and for around two months now having a bit of a go again…

Don’t put years to your life, put life to your days

Artwork by Juan Felipe Molano Rodriguez

My name is Juan Felipe Molano and I’m a student in Bogota Colombia.

I have always loved to draw but it was the moment when I grabbed a camera and took a trip to a small town and I saw this elder woman who just seemed like she just enjoyed life, she inspired me to go home and draw her. I know it might need some improvements, but it is my first long scale drawing, although I did put the best effort into it. I hope you enjoy it! …

I am a petroleum engineer, working in oil industry in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

My hobbies include paintings, drawings, playing guitar, traveling. I want to make my career in fine art. For this I need to gain more confidence, and leave my current field.

I started painting and drawing since my childhood, but during my engineering job, it was not frequent. I had two exhibitions during my art career. It had been a while (3 years) since I again started painting. Now I am more serious and wants to pursue my art career with all energy and passion…

Training the Hand With Metal Point

Training the Hand With Metal Point

Artwork by Gilberto Mello, Drawing Academy student

Dear colleagues,

I started the Drawing Academy program in 2013; since then I have been working at my own pace, but doing diligently, trying to take the best of the lessons and I sometimes reviewing them over just to make sure I am getting the drawing principles and techniques right. I enjoy the program not only for the learning of drawing but also for the numerous interesting techniques presented in it, such as the old masters metal point drawing technique.
I confess that in the beginning I was afraid to try metal tips in drawing, for fear that I would ‘mess things up’ easily and not be able to correct them, but I decided to give it a try just to see how far I could go. For my surprise, I was able to prepare the paper medium fairly well, following the clear instructions given in the course; furthermore, I was able to complete one drawing with very pleasing results. So gratifying was the first experience that I decided to try it once more, producing the portrait that I present along with this narrative…

Questions from D. Stalberg, Drawing Academy student

Hi,

I am currently enrolled in the Drawing Academy and am slowly working my way through the material. I have learned a lot from the videos I have watched so far, and am impressed with the quality of the material.

When I have worked through all (or at least a large portion of) the material in the Drawing Academy, I am interested in signing up for the other courses.

Is there any overlap/common material in Drawing Academy, Anatomy Master Class and Web Art Academy? Do you see the Drawing academy as the basic introduction/essentials of anatomy for drawing, and the Anatomy Masterclass as providing a more detailed/comprehensive discussion of anatomy? I also notice that there are a few Drawing-specific videos in the Web Art Academy course, although most of the videos are about Oil painting.

Many thanks,
D. Stalberg
