Common Symbolism in Art

Commonly in religious story-tellings, or in more modern pieces challenging contemporary ideologies, symbolism has been a tool many artist have used yet little perfected to a level of mastery. Symbolism can range from the pinching of female nipples to indicate a pregnancy, such as in the painting Gabrielle d’Estrées et une de ses soeurs (Gabrielle d’Estrées and one of her sister) to the use of the color blue in Picasso’s paintings to show the society’s poor and outcast members and highlight themes of loneliness…

Art is my life now

I am a retired baker, who finally got to spend extended time doing what has been a life long on/off affair – doing art.

Over the course of years, I have turned from acrylics to colored pencil to pen and ink, each being a medium from which to express what I call themescaping – taking abstract ideas and visualizing them in a realist manner, whether still life or landscape.

I’m essentially self-taught from loads of books, my only failure has been not to grasp figures well, even after going thru several books, so most my works have none, and many others in mind would benefit from having them…
