The Skills of Hatching
Drawing by Ronnie Rayner Larter
Almost all my drawings over the past years have been drawn and toned by smudging graphite pencil. On this course however, we are taught not to smudge graphite, but instead use hatching and cross-hatching techniques when using pencil, which I have tried. Although some of my earlier drawings of simple basic objects were reasonably successful, I have found drawing a skull a little more complicated because of its many curved surfaces that requires hatching in various directions.
The drawing above is not yet finished, but is a work in progress.
