My name is Candace Gely, I’m 18 years old, and I am a self-taught artist.
As of right now, I am attending my first year at Kean University NJ, majoring in Studio Art with a focus in Illustration with also a minor in Dance.
Art for me as been an outlet to expressing myself. I’ve always seen art as a beautiful thing and that it is incredibly versatile, with so many artists having different styles to their artwork.
I haven’t found my style per-say, but I slowly realize what’s working and what isn’t. And with that comes self-doubt, which is my biggest challenge when making art, always thinking that it can be better.
You can probably think of it as a way of self-motivation, striving to succeed.
I have enjoyed dabbling into different art mediums and learning different techniques as I further my journey.
I think the Drawing Academy is an excellent source for young artists who are looking to better their skills and connect with other artists.
When starting my journey, I didn’t have that community to go to for learning or advice, so this academy is very convenient and qualitative. In the end, I want to become a great artist and show the world my vision.
The public should vote for me because I’ve shown that you don’t need to go to an art school and be taught hands-on by professors to make good art. I am speaking from experience.
