Story and artwork from Bipin Shrestha
My name is Bipin Shrestha and I am from Kathmandu, Nepal.
I am a freelance graphic designer/Illustrator. For me, art plays a major role as it is the medium that I interact the most during the day, whether in the form of comics or by drawing. I try to devote a minimum of 2 hours daily to improve my craft in drawing. I have always admired the craft of portraiture and figure drawings of the old masters and have always wanted to draw like them. The challenges that I face in art is the lack of proper understanding of value and form. Even in my imaginative characters, I lack the ability to make them lifelike and dynamic, they usually tend to be stiff. I also have difficulty in understanding light and shadow and how the light interacts with the form of the object. Through understanding of anatomy and life drawing, I want to have the ability to draw like the old masters and I also want to be able to create my own lively characters through imagination.
I think Drawing Academy is a great resource to learn the classical russian approach of drawing. I’m inspired by the works of Repin and Fechin, and to be able to draw and paint like them, it is crucial to have the foundations developed such as the understanding of shapes, form, value etc. which the Drawing Academy provides. I want to win because from where I live I couldn’t afford the online classes so by winning the drawing academy course I will be able to focus on the foundations of art to improve my life drawing skills and be confident on my imaginative illustrations. People should vote for me because I am very much dedicated and through this I’ll have the ability to develop my skill and my work.
