Fresh, Vibrant Art–Locations, Women, and Flowers!
Story and artwork from Susan Brown
Painting and drawing have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My work relies on color, form and pattern, in that order. I work in acrylic, oil and watercolor. I especially enjoy painting in acrylics for the boldness of the palette options and ability to add texture to my paintings. However, the flow of watercolor offers freedom and “happy surprises,” adding to the immediacy of my paintings. Oil gives me the ability to add depth and fluency.
I’ve been seriously studying portraits for the challenge and ability to portray human emotion.
I find drawing and painting portraits and figures to be the most challenging thing in painting and drawing–as even the smallest deviation is easily detectible, unlike in still life or landscapes. I want to learn to be expert in drawing and painting, especially portraits and figures, and to be as expressive as possible, while being accurate as well.
I think the Drawing Academy is one of the most capable schools of art that I’ve seen–I like the lack of pretension, the clear descriptions of “how to” and the expertise demonstrated by the instructors.
Winning the Drawing Academy Course will be tremendously helpful in improving my abilities in this area.
I would hope folks would vote for me as I still have a long way to go to be where I want to be in my art practice. I’m dedicated to being a full time artist, and willing to put the time and energy into my work. Therefore, I think and feel that I’m deserving of this help.
