Drawing has always been a part of my life and I always knew that I wanted to be an artist. As a kid, I would often copy my favorite cartoon characters in order to learn to draw. Unfortunately I didn't have anyone who could tell me otherwise or guide me into learning fundamentals or realistic drawing. Till now I did not realize that I would need to strengthen my roots in order to really make it as an artist. So I started drawing from pictures and observations but the end result is never quite where it should be. And because my drawing skills are so limited, drawing from imagination is just not yet possible for me. I am currently 17 years old, yes a student, which is why it would be great to win this competition and finally have clear guidance to improve my art skills...

I am now a 24 yr old Native American from the pits of Montana. I grew up in a town not of any where on the map, busby, Mt is my Hometown. Growing up I never knew any other place existed because that's what I was led to believe. Living in such a small place I did what I could to get around, to get by. Alcohol & drugs were the main thing going around, the only thing at the time to help people escape the harsh truth of where we lived. I've done many things I'm not proud of. I didn't know my mom or dad at all. My grandparents had led me to believe that they were my only real parents. Truth be told I'd rather believe that lie. At the age of 10 I first met my mom, first gained knowledge that my dad would not be in the picture. She took me away to a far city where I rebelled every chance I got. Endless arguments & battles with my mom's alcoholism led me to stay outside more than inside. I'd rather survive on the streets than come home and have to survive the harsh reality of what was left of my mom ...

I've always known I wanted to be an artist. I am primarily self-taught, with the exception of invaluable input from my father who is himself an artist, and participation in classes and a workshop at Killaby Art School and Studio in Lindale, Texas, under the wonderful artists Maureen Killaby and Qiang Huang. I am always seeking affordable opportunities to advance my learning and understanding, and gain new skills.

I have tackled many types and sizes of art projects over the years that have seemed to be beyond my abilities, but have managed to complete them satisfactorily. However, I sometimes feel that due to my lack of skills in certain areas, I am forced to settle with art that faintly resembles my original ideas...

In my life I have been late to just about every milestone. I get to these milestones in my own timely manner. Late didn't matter though as I had a clear concise goal. Then in my last year of college I had to take two electives and I was at a loss. My goals were clear until this point. As some may figure I thought this would be an easy choice. Little did I know how that one move would impact my goals? The first choice was easy. I went with creative writing since I had written poetry since I was twelve. The second choice was Art history, and my major was archaeology so this seemed to fit. That one class changed everything in my world and the pull I felt to art I cannot explain. After some years struggling with the learning process which was along side my academic studies in Civil engineering and Architecture, I decided to master in wide variety of fields by excelling arts and architecture. After a decade spending time and effort on drawing since my childhood, I've managed to get four diplomas from Arsoy Private Art School including teaching certificate, while I've finished my studies in Master of Architecture.
