I’m a 40+ year old artist who is looking for ways to improve and learn how to promote my work. There have been many instances in my life growing up where I had an opportunity to sell my work with those chances becoming lingering disappointments.
I’m hoping with these courses I can gain valuable knowledge as well as a foothold into the market and finally make my first sale.
I love Da Vinci. So I decided to draw a more simplified version of his famous painting. I took this subject for it’s expression and beauty.
I have no social media, so that’s a bit of a disadvantage. Art is the great love of my life.
Somehow your words “draw what you know, not what you see” just didn’t click with me. While doing some practice drawing today, I began to realize that it is not only drawing what you know, but to feel the curves that round the face, the eyes, lids, nose, lips, etc. I have never drawn this way before. I started my old way, and I realized I had to feel the roundness and curves to have them stand out. In the past, by luck, some of my copying of photos did produce many of those curves. However, I now realize that this is a much better way to draw. Sorry it took me so long to understand how to make curves. I will let you know how this drawing turns out.
I’ve been ‘arting’ for 20 years. I’m now retired and my wife and I help our daughter with our granddaughters. That in itself is a job in its own.
I started to painted late in life. I never thought I had any artistic ability but after a few classes I was hooked.
Every great painting starts with an idea/concept then pencil or paint to paper.

Hello, My name is Seerat Mand. I am a bachelors student of first year and pursuing my humanities. I won’t say that I had always been fascinated towards arts or it was my hobby because that’s not true. Actually, I evinced interest in art when I was in ninth grade and at that time I came to know from the internet, which was newly installed in our house that people out there are so talented and are making unbelievable realistic artworks, at that time I decided to start learning art with all my sources and sincere efforts. As Che Guevera said that if you wont get something until you are ready to die for it, in the same way I am ready to stake my life to achieve my goal in art.

I recently discovered a Russian book called “Основы учебного академического рисунка.” Although I don’t speak Russian, I really like studying from it.
Can you give any advice on how to study from a book? Is just copying the drawings enough?
Do you believe that it is better to start from the beginning of the book or to study the things you are interested in?
