Australian Drought
Story and artwork from Corrine G Arekion
My name is Corrine Arekion and I live in Brisbane- Australia. Everyday this year when I come back home from work, I started painting while preparing dinner. I really love painting.
My biggest challenge in Art is painting light and shadows for an emotional uplift.
I would like to be better at drawing movement of people, light and shadows and architectural details.
I have always loved the old way of drawing art ‘Ecoles des beaux Arts’, because of the fine movement and emotion that comes from it but you don’t see in photography.
Yes I would love to win the Drawing Academy Course, I think I could use it to develop the Art collection in Australia.
I hope that people love my paintings and that they develop and emotional understanding of Australia, its geography and landscapes, our love of animals and our resilience in face of harsh weather and that we keep on living.
This drawing depicts the long drought of 2019. It was tough for farmers, the grass turned blond and very dry almost everywhere in rural Australia and the weather was so dry, like in an oven. The end of 2019 ended up with a big bush fire all around Australia. If you look at the landscape you can have a feel why we ended up in a big fire that year.
