My Very First Figure Drawing

Drawing by Alex Saldivar, Drawing Academy student

Hello, my name is Alex and I love drawing and art in general.

I have always wanted to be a better artist and never knew why I couldn’t draw from imagination. I eventually gave up on art but decided to pick it up again about two years ago because I finally found the secret I never knew about. I found that to be better at art and to draw from imagination I not only had to practice daily, but I had to learn the basics. This included shapes, forms, value, perspective and all the other basics of drawing.

From childhood, I always had the bad habit of drawing from observation incorrectly. That is, I would begin my drawings from the outside in. I never knew that to do a great drawing a foundation such as measurements, proportions and the use of basic shapes to mold my drawings was the actual way to start a drawing…

I am enrolled in the Drawing Academy and Web Art Academy as well. I always wanted to paint, but realized my drawing skills were not strong enough to bring my visions to life.

Now that I am enrolled in the drawing course I can see that my drawing skills are improving and I can also see the affects of that in my painting, I always appreciate your feedback and critique!

I feel I am continuing to learn and grow! …

Remembering Hercules statue

Artwork by Charles Goh

My name is Charles Goh and I have learned quite a lot from this drawing course.

Drawing Academy is the online course, which is very for me as I could study at home. It provides very good lessons for art education.

Here’s my drawing of the Hercules statue – one of the classical marbles from the art museum…

Hello, I’m Megan. I grew up on the coast of Maine, surrounded by artists and living in an artists’ mecca. Occasionally I would do some sketching, designed playbills in high school, and never considered it a serious endeavor; I was too busy with music back then, and frankly, thought that I could never be good enough.

Fast forward to my late 30’s when I moved to Hawaii. Everything was so beautiful here that I couldn’t capture it in words. I pulled out some colored pencils that I had for years and began to draw. I drew one of the parrots we had at the time and gave it to my housemate for Christmas and she said, “And you’re not doing this for a living?” I received an easel for my birthday that year, and I’ve been painting and drawing ever since…

My true self

Artwork by Evelyn Orozco

Hello!!! I’m so excited for doing this, you can’t even imagine.

I’m 17 years old, from Táchira, Venezuela.

I hadn’t told this to anyone but now I’m gonna be sincere and open my heart to all of you. I’ve always been a person who people can rely on, since I can remember I always did what it was expected for me to do, like being respectful, responsible, disciplined, a good student…

One day I started wondering about who I was, if I was just who people wanted me to be or who I wanted to be… Here’s where, without previous warning, my passion for art and that little artist I had since I was a child reborn. Suddenly I found myself reading Andrew Loomis books and watching YouTube drawing videos!

I have always attempted to draw portraits since I was very young. I completed a bachelors degree in visual arts in 2003 but the education did not involve learning techniques. Nevertheless, the arts theory education was very rewarding. I am still attempting to improve my drawing and painting skills in between my normal job, household, children etc in the hope that I can pursue my arts practice as a profession on day…

I’m the type of girl who adores learning and reading. Those two things helped me tremendously last year when I started drawing for the first time. My friends and family were very surprised when I started creating art because I’ve never done it before and they asked me why I never said I was good at it. The truth is I’ve spent TONS of hours researching online, reading blog posts, following artists on instagram and deviantart, watching hundreds of videos and saving thousands of pictures by other artists to study their techniques. I still have so much more to learn but I am so proud of how far I have come by myself…
