The best art school in the world

Ever since I came across the Drawing Academy website and their approach to traditional drawing, I’ve been really interested with the Old Masters. How they can convey such great emotion, force, power, fragileness with only a few strokes? This is what I wanted to know. I did a lot of research on YouTube and various social media but I couldn’t find any great answer.

The Drawing Academy picked my interest in searching ways to learn and improve my art skill. The Drawing Academy helped me understand that art can be really beautiful, and all you need is knowledge and dedication. For days, I searched for that knowledge, reading all the things that the Academy tutors say about anatomy, perspective, human figure and so on. And in my frantic research, I stumble across one name: Ilya Repin, St. Petersburg. Someone mentioned it and said they studied there, since then my interest was picked and I gathered all the information I could about this amazing school.

A little story about llya Repin

The Russian Academy of Arts known as the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, was founded in 1757 by Ivan Shuvalov under the name “Academy of the Three Noblest Arts”. Catherine the Great renamed it The Imperial Academy of Arts and commissioned a new building, completed 25 years later in 1789 by the Neva River. The academy promoted the neoclassical style and technique.

The academy was renamed several times. In 1947 the national institution was moved to Moscow, and much of its art collection was moved to the Hermitage. The building in Leningrad was devoted to the Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, named in honor of one of Russia’s foremost realist artists. Since 1991 it has been called the St. Petersburg Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.

What is fascinating about this art school is that Art is a serious matter. They formed the best artist in the world. It’s one of the last school on the planet that really teach the traditional way. No wonder why such masters came out of it. Students gather all over the world in this Academy to improve their art. You have to work really hard to get into this Academy and work really hard to stay in it too. The Repin Academy is the dream of many, many artist and some take years of dedication and practice to get accepted.

Art is really a beautiful thing and with my desire to get into this Academy to really perfect my craft… I’ve become obsessed with it. Of course, Repin is a dream school for many artist not only because of their outstanding method of teaching but also for their amazing artists-professors their amazing museum (who has none of the oldest fine arts collection in St-Petersburg), their outstanding Library (the oldest art library in Russia) and so on…
