Artwork and story from Vicky Kaufman
I’ve always been drawn to art. From the 64 Box of Crayola crayons as a kid to doodling while taking notes at meetings throughout my career in Financial Sales. Once my husband was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in August 2022, drawing became my therapy, my escape and my way of keeping my mind from wandering to the inevitable end. Began sketching and using color pencils (easier to bring with me while he was undergoing treatments) and once he passed in March 2024 progressing to soft pastels and now just starting in oils.
Several months after he passed I began attending The Barn Studio of Art, a local non competitive art studio in Millville New Jersey. Since I have no formal Art education my Instructor and another experienced Artist introduced me to a Pastel Artist who educated me in selecting better quality pastels and paper. All have been incredibly supportive, encouraging and challenging me.
My challenge(s) have been and are learning as much as possible on color theory (and now color mixing in oils), techniques and history of the great masters. Another area of challenge I am starting now is figure drawing and want to master that area as well. The Drawing Academy has been instrumental in teaching me those basics and the course listings that are available will definitely assist me in realizing my dream of becoming an accomplished artist.
Additionally, I have been fortunate to be able to share both my learning and materials with the14 year old daughter of a dear friend. She loves art and is eager to learn and continually practices and is steadily progressing. Voting for me will provide a path to improve my skills, continue healing and sharing this love of art with a next generation budding artist.
Respectfully
Vicky Kaufman
