Study of an Arm
Artwork by Ronnie Rayner Larter
This drawing was done using the Charles Bargue sight-sizing method in graphite pencil and white chalk on pastel painted paper.
I began to study the Bargue method about three years ago and it seems to be an excellent way of learning to draw; first from the flat then from 3-D objects. However, using the Bargue measuring method can become a hindrance that could prevent an artist from developing fluency in drawing, thereby losing that emotional quality.
