I’ve always adored renaissance and Baroque art, and in the past few years my passion for this classical era of art grew even more as I started to grapple with understanding motifs and philosophical ideas from these paintings. I’ve been drawing on and off for years through my childhood. At some point a year ago I realized I could copy well but had little understanding of the three dimensional subjects that I was drawing. Unfortunately I had never taken art classes before and needed to fill this gap of knowledge somehow. This is when I found the wonderful resource of Drawing Art Academy! I had been slowly following along with the fundamental tutorials from Vladimir London from your channel. This has helped me better than any other resource I could find! I would then try my best to apply the principles and fundamentals learned to my more complex works like portraits that perhaps in terms of skills and understanding I’m not yet ready to do. From the influence of my current highschool art teacher who is a well known New Zealand artist, about half a year ago I decided to take art more seriously. Since then I have also found an in person fundamentals drawing class with a Russian Teacher who has done 5 years in Russian Art school before moving to New Zealand, I’m attending these classes once a week, but would like to study the fundamentals more. Ultimately in my art I would like to bring the techniques of the old masters to a more modern setting, showing our connection with the past but also connection to contemporary art, in a way this is also my expression of frustration with modern art dominating the art scene, that puts people off by its bizzare price but lack of skill. I unfortunately can’t afford the course, but if I can win it, it would massively aid me in my art journey. Connecting with teachers and other artists with a similar purpose would mean the world to me!
