Sleeping Madeleine

Artwork by Pina Kollars

Sleeping Madeleine

I am a composer, lecturer and aspiring art teacher currently living in Vienna.

More than anything, I love the study of the human body.

I’ve recently discovered pastels and have made a drawing of my sleeping daughter. She is eight years old and it is usually next to impossible to make her sit still to capture the beauty of innocence, which is part of the essence of childhood. So I took the opportunity to depict Madeleine during a majestic sleep. Swiftly and quietly I worked until she woke up writhing between her sheets…

Materials: Charcoal, red chalk & pastels on cardboard.
Size: 50 x 37 cm.

I have recently received my best birthday present as of yet: The painting course with Web Art Academy. Yet, I feel also the drawing course would greatly benefit me in finding my way round the techniques and materials to strengthen the fundament of my painting abilities.

  1. Beautiful and poignant work! Artist and parent both live within the ebb and flow of emotional torment and love. This work breathes life into the mundane moments of tranquil simplicity.
