Help me be bold!

I began my self taught art journey by drawing the people I admired. I got decent at drawing faces but couldn’t really figure out the shading and contours involved in creating a portrait and don’t even get me started on drawing teeth!. I’ve always loved going to museums and galleries for inspiration and really wanted to try my hand at painting but I cowered from it initially. I’d never imagined that when I picked up a paint brush, I’d instantly feel magic in its bristles. It was fun to discover this colorful path in all its strokes of reds and blues and yellows.  It has become my most fearless form of expression.

Painting has become my most fearless form of expression, although I began my self taught art journey by drawing. It’s funny because I cowered from painting for a long time until my sister encouraged me to just give it a try. Once I took her advice, and picked up the paint brush, I swear I felt magic in those bristles! Then off I went, on a colorful journey in happy strokes of reds and blues and yellows.

The ease I feel with painting is the exact opposite of how I feel about sketching, which I used to practice every day. Once I abandoned my pencil for my paint brush, it was difficult to return to it. The longer I was away, the more intimidated I felt.

I don’t want to shy away from it anymore and it’s silly to limit my art expression. In the end, it’s an area I’d really love to go back to as well as strengthen my artistic skills. I feel that the Drawing Academy course is exactly what I need to get me to a place where fear doesn’t work against me.

The ease I feel with painting is the exact opposite of how I feel about sketching.  It’s funny because I used to practice every day but  once I abandoned my pencil, it was difficult to return to it.  The longer I stayed away, the more intimidated I felt. I get so excited when a creative idea comes to me. I can envision what I want to draw in my head so clearly but it doesn’t translate quite the same when I attempt to put it to paper. I know that I would benefit greatly from professional instruction. I also feel that honing my drawing skills can only make me a stronger painter. Having followed the Drawing Academy for some time now, I know they could guide me toward embracing this challenge which would in turn give me the confidence I need to continue to explore what I love.

I no longer want to shy away from sketching because it’s silly to limit my art expression due to some unfounded fear. Drawing was part of my creative beginning and something I really want to return to with my whole artistic heart.
