Ohhh Honey, It’s Just the Beginning
Story and artwork from Joceline Geulista
Hi! I’m Joceline. I lived my whole life in Indonesia watching anime, cartoons, or anything animated that I could get my hands on. I have an unbreakable love for garlic bread, and I am here to master my art skills.
Art takes up a very big chunk of my life. I come across drawings and other forms of art every day. It’s impossible not to, honestly. I’ve held the pencil since I was a toddler. I remember it was a stickman with hands that my teacher mistook for flowers. Then I grew an obsession for dragons (thanks, Eragon). That obsession turned into an interest in fantasy, then fiction, and here I am today (also interested in non-fiction. I mean, garlic bread is real). It’s fascinating how a passion for something imagined can evoke so many feelings inside yourself and others, so you talk about it with others. A conversation turns into a community, and now you spend your days with others talking about how a piece of art reflects life in general. In brief, art makes life more interesting, hence why I love it.
The art masters do the art-making very well. But before I go into the fancy-schmancy as the art masters do, I have to learn the fundamentals: anatomy, perspective, colour, etc. I kid you not, It isn’t easy. Even with all the guides and tutorials available online, it’s still a hard journey.
I’m hoping that after I have a solid foundation on the basics I can make art that dances with meaning and intention (semiotics and all that), so I can make a vivid, nuanced story out of it.
When I first learned about Drawing Academy, I thought it was just another art learning institution. But when I watched their video called “How to Self-Assess Your Drawing Skills“, I was intrigued. I’ve never heard or seen their way of assessing skills, or the Russian art curriculum in general. The way they were thorough about the assessment was impressive.
I want to win the Drawing Academy course because I’m enthusiastic about art. I want to claw my way up into wherever the art masters are. I think this course is a very good place to help me get there, not only because it’s great, but also because I cannot find any art course as informative as this back at home.
I’d be glad to know that you, the reader, trust that I have a love for drawing and want to do anything it takes to reach my dream. I’d also be happy if you take your time in voting and sharing my dream! Thank you
