Artwork and story from Kathryn
I am 60 years old. I have always loved drawing and art, but was never able to excel at it.
My life was full of uncertainty and turmoil. My step father unbeknownst to us, was a fugitive from the law and who was a master forger. So we were on the road traveling so many years. I went to 7 different schools across the United States within one school year, never completing that grade. I remember one school where I was enrolled in the art class, when or where, I could not tell you, but we were told to bring in our own supplies. We did not have any funds for me to go to art class, so I had to drop out. So growing up I would attempt to draw here and there, and I loved it because it gave me an outlet and something beautiful to concentrate on but I never could master it. As I grew older, I joined the military and had my family. My life has been so busy and full I did not feel I had the time for me and learn until now.
The most challenging aspects are getting my proportions correct. And the shading. I do better at landscapes because no one really knows where you got that from.
What I am seeing on the Drawing Academy website site excites me to the possibilities to become the artist I always wanted to be. I have always said im a jack of all trades but a master of none. I would like to change that and feel like I can really do one thing professional looking.
I ask that you send a vote to me because I am now in a place in my life where my children are raised and gone, I will retire in appropriately 5 years and I want to enjoy some of my last years learning and creating something that my children and grandchildren would be proud to hang on their walls.
Thank you!
