Mother Nature
Story and artwork by Yera
Hey there, I’m a self-taught artist.
I started making art from a young age only because my older sister was talented, and I took inspiration from her. We were both referred to as the ‘art sisters’, although I was always slightly overshadowed by her, but recognized nonetheless. After a move to a different continent, I started relying on my art as my voice, in a way, because I barely knew the language. It helped a lot with coping. Only recently, though, have I started taking art seriously. I even attended my first art class for a while before the quarantine.
Art is a huge part of my life, and my family’s life, since all four of us siblings are creative in some way. I feel like I’ve been a big inspiration to my younger sister as my older sister was to me.
My main challenge in art is mostly getting over my “art dysmorphia”. I’ve been getting over the embarrassment of showing other people my art be posting it online, where people that aren’t biased can give me actual opinions on my art. It’s been going pretty well.
What I want to learn in art, is nothing in specific. I just want to grow as a person, and learn from people who are experienced. I’ve had the fortune of meeting an art instructor in the recent past and was really baffled at how accepting the art community was. I wasn’t really a part of it until I started putting myself out there, and that’s what I’m trying to do now.
My thoughts on the Drawing Academy is that, along with how much helpful material is on here, it’s very generous to give financially challenged people a chance like this. I find it amazing that such a huge age group has posted on this site trying to learn art, and It genuinely motivates me to continue.
The reason I want to win is just to learn. My dad’s in the restaurant business, so he doesn’t have much time and money to invest in me (He supports me plenty, though.), and I’ve taken it upon myself to find different ways to improve myself. I’ve probably watched every youtube tutorial twice.
People shouldn’t be obliged to vote for me. I just want anyone who comes across this page should vote only if they think my art deserves it.
And, last, I’m still learning with digital art, and I feel that I have much better pieces in my sketchbooks, but this is all I have saved on my computer right now, and it’s ok. (Mother Nature is the name of the painting.
