Dear Bill,

Thank you very much for your geometric still-life drawing.

You have a good understanding of linear perspective and object’s contours.

What you may want to improve is the technique of rendering tonal values.

In your drawing, you have a nice directional gamut of of pencil strokes. However, the way you apply these strokes can be a bit more delicate.

It is also a good approach to gradually build up tonal values by doing multiple layers of hatching.

Please check below drawings by Russian art students to see how they treat backgrounds and apply pencil hatching.
