Drawing by Charcoal Meg
To Be A Charcoal Pencil in the Hand of God
My name is Meg and I am a 37 year old mother of 5. I have a degree in visual art, with a concentration in photography.
I loved my figure drawing classes in college way back when and developed a love for drawing portraits. I am a stay at home mom and with 5 kids my art was put on the back burner for over 13 years. My children are finally getting independent enough for me to start making art again. I can draw anything from a photograph but I can no longer draw whatever comes to mind without something to look at.
I would love the freedom to accurately and proportionately draw a face or figure without having to use a photo. I draw religious portraits when I’m not working on portrait commissions. I use statues and photos of models to make my drawings proportionately accurate. These lessons would help me to rise up to the next level. I’m not in a place in my life where I can run back to school for drawing lessons.
I feel like the Drawing Academy course would really help me create the art I feel called to make, on my own limited schedule.
I feel very strongly that God gives each and every one of us a special talent to use as a tool to bring His goodness and beauty into this world. I have a strong commitment to create new religious works that will inspire a renewed love and devotion to Jesus Christ through our Blessed Mother for a new generation of Christians. Through my work I hope to answer the call of Pope St. John Paul, II to artists to “Search for new epiphanies of beauty so that through their creative work as artists they may offer these gifts to the world”. I desire to be a little “charcoal” pencil in the hand of God.
