Robyn- Miami nighttime balcony toast
Artwork and story from Martin Savitzky
At the age of 16, I gave up art for a career path in science and subsequently law. In retirement, I‘ve returned to my artistic roots and threw myself into painting and drawing using internet resources that were not previously available to me. I’ve been in suspended animation for fifty years and need to catch up. Over the last eighteen months, I’ve taken adult art classes, studied “how to…” “ “Great Courses” lectures and followed the teaching videos of half a dozen artists online, and devoured portraiture books, which has resulted in a dozen acrylic tutorial works while learning basic principles of perspective, value, composition and color theory. After a few months I graduated to producing my own acrylic and oil works based on reference photos taken during years of foreign travel. To further improve I sought to refine my drawing and rendering skills, and tried out portraiture. My latest drawing in graphite. chalk and colored pencil is an example of my progress to date.
I want to learn how to draw from what I know, specifically the human form, with specific feedback from professional artists, as provided by the Drawing and Painting Academies.
