Art for a Cause!
Drawing by Lin Rhys
I grew up with art – my parents were artists. As a kid, I was always more interested in science, though. I started college majoring in science, and then I ended up in humanities, where I found a renewed love for art through art history and visual communications.
I feel like I’ve always had artistic skills, and so I may have taken them for granted – even neglected them. I do try to sketch a lot for practice. I also paint and do printmaking, and some mixed media. I really want to develop my own style, but I’m struggling with that. I want to hone more technical skills, but also, develop a looser style. I know it seems contradictory, but I feel my style should reflect who I am – a combination of science and art. I’d love to focus more on technical drawing, or forensic/medical illustration. I do enjoy wildlife art very much as well.
I like the look of what I’ve seen of the Drawing Academy, although I have not yet taken any classes (I’ve been out of work for a while). I want to win to develop my art skills and learn ways to focus them – to make them applicable, and be able to make a difference, with art. I believe art/illustration can be an important part of science outreach, and I’m very interested in that – using it for a purpose. Making the world a better place. I draw animals a lot, and wildlife conservation is a big concern of mine – I’d love to be able to use art to promote conservation efforts.
I hope that people will vote for me because I’ve had some difficulties in my life and a fresh start, through art, would enable me to make a positive impact on the world.
