My journey to art

I’ve been privileged to be a student of Vladimir London and Natalie Richy since 2012 and today I’d like to share my experience with you.

I believe that there’s a place for all of us out there and we need to learn the language of Art to communicate and let our voices be heard.

So here’s my story…

Since I was a little kid painting and drawing has been my love. From a very early age I attended various Art courses and workshops in my hometown and later on continued my education in a traditional Art college. Going to a contemporary art college was such a waste of time and money! I was never equipped with enough knowledge to start my own projects.

And then the tragedy happened; I got obsessed with Photorealism.

To my naive mind it was so exciting to be able to draw a portrait that looked exactly like a photograph. And so I tried to good at it and forgot all about my previous education.

I copied the outlines of my reference image onto the paper and slaved until my drawing was a duplicate of the photograph. And when people saw my work they were in awe, saying things like “This can’t be a drawing! You are so talented!” But deep down it felt like a scam because I haven’t done anything creative…

I no longer even had the confidence to draw something from life or imagination because it wouldn’t be as perfect. My labor continued and after a while drawing felt like a chore. Having to obsess over copying every single detail as it was on the photograph was exhausting. And so I quit drawing altogether.

My journey back to real art

The desire to paint and draw was still in me but I no longer had the patience to go through all that work. Until one day through serendipity I found the Web Art Academy, Natalie and Vladimir’s first Art course. I just knew that it was what I’ve been looking for all those years. Finally two tutors who had a vision and knew what Art is. Their works of Art on their own was so beautiful it once more awakened that part of me that yearned for creating meaningful Art.

And the fact that they so generously share their gift and knowledge with the whole world is marvelous. They’ve opened my eyes to a whole new world. Thanks to their step-by-step, comprehensive video lessons I now have a new apprehension and appreciation of the old masters and their techniques.

Most importantly they’ve given me hope and all the tools I need so that maybe one day I can also produce great Art like the old masters did.

I am still struggling to get away from my old ways and the trap of perfectionism but I know that I’m finally on the right path.

You won’t become an artist overnight and it takes a lot of time and patience but after studying these courses, if you keep practicing and do the work, you are well on your way to success.
