Is it okay to redraw old drawings to see how far your hand skills have improved or just to exercise before drawing the real deal?

I work 5 days a week but I make sure to draw for a least 2 to 3 hours. On the weekend, I draw all day.

Yes, copying the Old Masters’ artwork will give you necessary practice with time-tested techniques and styles as well as refine your taste in art.

However, this must be a supplement to drawing from nature and life, not a replacement.

I see digital drawing as technological advance in drawing materials, not as rival to traditional hand-drawing. With time, drawing tools developed from earth pigments and charcoal to modern paints (like acrylic), and further to the digital stylus and graphics software. Tools are just tools, they will not replace human talent and creativity. To be skillful in digital drawing, you have to master manual drawing techniques.
