Sub-lime: adjective; of such excellence, grandeur, or beauty as to inspire great admiration or awe.

Beauty comes within everything we encounter. Whether or not we think it’s beautiful is a different story. As an artist I live to inspire and find beauty all around me. That’s why artists look upon life differently and see what the ordinary person cannot.

Ever since I was a child, I looked to art as a form of inspiration. Art was always my calling however, I hadn’t taken it upon myself to explore to depths of it until I reached high school. Upon my entering high school, I auditioned for the STAR Academy Art Magnet Program. I can honestly say this program changed my life in many ways. I learned not only composition, but proportion, technique, and value. Throughout my high school years I experienced what it’s like to partake in a rigorous program that sharpens skills and conceptual thinking. I have also won a series of awards, opening doors to scholarships and recognition. Among some of the competitions are, Scholastics Art and Writing Honorable Mention and Gold Key, Young Artists’ Gallery Award of Merit, and Beaux Art Award of Best in Show. Another noteworthy award I received was a 5 on my AP Studio Art course. Winning might not be everything in this world, but as a student it means a whole lot because it shows that I’m on the right path and I’m doing the right thing. It shows my growth and improvement as an artist and I believe that is vital in order to keep growing and progressing forward. Currently, I have submitted applications for art school to Ringling College of Art and Design, Savannah College of Art and Design, and New World School of the Arts.

I hope to continue my education in one of these art facilities where I will attain my Masters of Fine Art in Illustrating. My teacher always told me “It’s not about the WHAT it’s about the HOW”. In other words, it’s about how you construct a piece and develop it through your choice of mediums and decisions regarding composition amongst other factors as opposed to the subject you are drawing itself.
