Playing with tonal values and perspective
Sketch by Michaela, Drawing Academy student
Dear tutors,
I was playing a bit with perspective and drew our entrance. I did the piece twice, the first I drew with pencil, with the second, I tried ink. The pencil drawing turned out very linear. As a contrast, I wanted to get something like a tunnel-effect with my ink-drawing.
I liked to draw with ink, although it is not forgiving, so I had to work very concentrated.
I hope I made no mistake when constructing perspective! Your critique is much appreciated! As mother of two, I don´t have as much free time to draw as I wished I had, so it will take me longer to complete the course.
Yours, Michaela
Many thanks for your drawing. It looks very good, great work!
You have a very good understanding of constructive drawing principles and one-point perspective.
There is only one tiny bit in your drawing that could be corrected – the top-right end of the beam, see below:
Once again, thank you for your drawing.
To your creative success,

I like it!
Thank you very much for your kind words and critique! I think it is very important, to search for critique to get better as an artist! I consider myself as lucky, that there are people out there, who watch my drawings this closely and give such detailed feedback!! This means that people take their time and look at my work closely.
I will try to correct my mistakes next time!
There are more mistakes that you overlooked.
1. The middle rafter becomes thicker towards the top, which is further away, instead of thinner.
2. The rafters are diverting at the top, which is wrong, because they are further from the observer’s eye, and should thus become slightly closer to each other the higher they are.
3. The last pillar (left from the door) is much wider than it should be. (look at the right side of the first floor plank where the pillar is the only one that ovewrlaps the line).
Regards,
GV
