How to efficiently apply my art skills?

How to efficiently apply my art skills?

Questions from Shana Moens

How can I apply all the skills I have already and will hopefully gain in the future into becoming my own kind of artist?

Feedback from Vladimir London, Drawing Academy Tutor

Hi Shana,

The originality of your art depends not only on your skills but also on what you have to say with your art.

I would suggest that you come up with a written statement about your life vision, purpose, and mission as an artist. These have to come from the heart. You need to have something you stand for, and then use your art to support it. If you have a strong message, people will listen.

For that message to be effective, however, your art skills have to be strong as well.

Thank you for sharing your story. I feel that the art teacher who said that you didn’t have talent should be removed from that school. It is like a doctor intentionally trying to kill a patient on an operation table instead of helping.

Everyone is talented, and everyone can draw. Drawing is just a skill, one that can be learned by anyone.

Drawing is a way of communication and thinking, like a visual language. You like to write, you like to talk, and you like to draw. I think you have a winning combination for creating your own career of becoming a writer who illustrates your stories with your own art. You have a passion for it. Doing that will not feel like a job; you’d be surprised exactly how great it is to do what you love and get paid for it : )

I have no doubts that your art style will be unique.

In the Drawing Academy, you will find the necessary information on traditional drawing techniques that will help you to improve your drawing skills.

Also, as an Academy student, you will receive unlimited personal support from academy tutors. This support is for a lifetime, a service that is unique to Drawing Academy.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I will be happy to help.

To your creative success,

Thank you so much for your reply. What you said really lifted my spirits, and I needed that at this moment. I really appreciate it a lot. Also, because I’m sure you are a very busy man. Not many people would send such a personal reply.

I will definitely try to write down for myself what becoming an artist means to me, and how I see art. I can’t imagine why I’ve never thought of that before. I think that will greatly help me to figure myself out. Because of the two years I’ve been in college already, I’ve really been lost in that regard. Everybody else seems to know what direction they want to go in or what kind of style suits them best. Some even have such unique styles that you can pick them out of 100 drawings. But maybe I just worry and think too much about other people’s opinions instead of listening to myself.

    With kind regards,
    Shana Moens
