Rediscovering Myself

I have gotten to an age where I’m starting to think about what’s important to me. When we’re younger, we have a tendency to get caught up in just getting through the day, and not appreciate the things and people that make us happy.

Drawing for me is one of those things that make me happy. I took a long time off, not really doing any drawing for over 40 years.

I’ve rediscovered drawing and in turn, rediscovered myself. Since I’ve taken so long off, I need to re-learn the elements of drawing that make artwork something I can be satisfied with.

I struggle with proportions and shading, always putting lines down, then erasing, then putting lines down, then erasing, and so forth until I’ve overworked a piece and can’t be happy with it.

The drawing I’ve submitted is of my son and his girlfriend, I’m not that happy with it, the eyes are all wrong, for example, but it does look like them, for the most part, so I consider that a victory.

I think the Drawing Academy looks like a place where I can learn how to be better, learn the skills where I’m Ok with showing others what I’m working on.

I don’t know why people should vote for me over someone else, we all have similar wants and hopes for becoming more skilled, but I sure would appreciate it.
